Project Overview

This Scandinavian-inspired Littleton kitchen remodel transformed a dark, closed-off 1990s ranch kitchen into a bright, welcoming space designed for a growing family. Located in Dakota Ridge, this home was newly purchased by a young couple preparing to welcome their first child. With a baby on the way and a dog already part of the household, the goal was clear: create a functional, light-filled kitchen that felt warm, intuitive, and connected to the home’s mountain surroundings before move-in.

The original kitchen felt cramped and disconnected from expansive windows and views toward Mt. Falcon. The homeowners envisioned a soft, natural palette with warm wood tones, subtle texture, and highly functional storage to support daily family life.

Layout & Design Strategy

The existing footprint posed several challenges, particularly the desire for a full island with seating, a window-wrapped breakfast nook, and a full-height pantry. To achieve this, the kitchen layout was reconfigured by flipping the locations of the refrigerator and pantry, improving circulation and visual flow.

Ceiling height had been underutilized in the original design, so new double-stacked cabinetry was introduced to fully extend to the 10-foot ceilings, significantly increasing storage while reinforcing vertical balance.

Materials, Features & Craftsmanship

A custom built-in bench seat now frames the breakfast nook, creating a cozy family gathering space surrounded by windows. Hidden storage beneath the bench adds everyday practicality without visual clutter.

Design highlights include:

  • White perimeter cabinetry paired with custom hickory and maple cabinetry in a warm Mirage stain
  • Quartz countertops that reflect light and enhance durability
  • A custom range hood wrapped in hickory trim that anchors the kitchen
  • Rotated herringbone zellige tile backsplash for artisanal texture and soft reflectivity

The sink was centered beneath the kitchen window, creating an intuitive prep space with a framed view of Mt. Falcon and reinforcing the kitchen’s connection to the outdoors.

Additional Enhancements

Beyond the kitchen, the project included a full main-floor flooring replacement to unify the space. Light, wide-plank engineered flooring adds warmth and continuity throughout. A modern horizontal stair railing in white oak and matte black steel updates the staircase while preserving open sightlines across the main level.

The Finished Space

The Soft White Harmony Kitchen blends Scandinavian simplicity with transitional warmth and organic modern influences. Clean lines, natural textures, and thoughtful craftsmanship come together to create a kitchen that feels calm, functional, and timeless, perfectly suited for a growing family and everyday life in Colorado.
