Legacy Refined: A Transitional Kitchen for a New Era

Project Overview

This kitchen remodel gracefully replaces dated Tuscan maximalism with a soft, elevated transitional aesthetic—designed to serve its owners well into their next chapter of life. With grown children and a home built around hosting, the clients sought timeless upgrades that blend beauty, accessibility, and lasting quality. Featuring extended cabinetry, hidden outlets, and Sub-Zero/Wolf appliances, the new space balances classic elegance with thoughtful innovation. From layered lighting to carefully placed functional details, this space is built for gatherings, gratitude, and the long view—framed, of course, by the kitchen’s spectacular mountain outlook.

Objectives

• Replace ornate Tuscan styling with a clean transitional design
• Improve accessibility for aging in place without sacrificing elegance
• Enhance storage with better cabinet configurations and pullouts
• Update materials and appliances for improved performance and style
• Celebrate natural light and mountain views with a lighter color palette

Design Challenges

• The original design overwhelmed the space with heavy finishes and traditional arches
• Storage was inefficient and difficult to access
• Outlets on the island needed to be brought up to code without interrupting the clean look
• Clients preferred to keep the general layout but wanted the microwave moved out of the working triangle

Design Solutions

• Installed semi-custom Diamond cabinets in two paint finishes: “Steam” and “Cloud”
  
• Extended cabinetry to ceiling with glass-front uppers and in-cabinet lighting
• Replaced lower cabinets with drawers and rollouts for easier access
• Integrated pop-up outlets in the island for hidden code compliance
• Repositioned the microwave to a more central location, out of the prep path
• Updated the backsplash with a subtle white herringbone tile, offering soft texture without visual clutter
