Project Overview
This 1994 Broomfield, Colorado kitchen began as a dark, outdated relic of its time—complete with honey oak cabinetry, laminate counters, and a boxed-in layout. The result? A cramped and uninspired space unfit for a family known for hosting epic holiday feasts. Today, the heart of the home has been reimagined and remodeled into a radiant, inviting, and magazine-worthy showpiece—where warm cherry tones wrap the space like caramel over vanilla, and a breathtaking quartz backsplash pours elegance up the wall. From forgotten to unforgettable, this kitchen now wins hearts—and holidays.
Project Highlights
Objectives
- Create a showstopping “hosting kitchen” worthy of family bragging rights
- Blend transitional and modern design for timeless style
- Maximize seating and counter space for entertaining
- Infuse light and luxury while staying within a reasonable budget
- Integrate statement appliances, including a premium range
Design Challenges
- Original kitchen was closed off with poor lighting and dated finishes
- Budget constraints with a long wishlist of high-end upgrades
- A main plumbing stack conflicted with the ideal range location
- HVAC return duct for upstairs bedrooms needed to be rerouted
- Flooring had to be matched and repaired to blend with new cabinetry
- Nearly 16' island required custom structural planning to support the quartz overhang for bar seating
Design Solutions
- Removed a structural wall to open the kitchen to the adjacent dining room and enhance flow
- Relocated plumbing stack and reengineered HVAC in a nearby wall to allow for optimal layout and performance
- Designed custom cabinets above fridge/freezer to align flush with appliance doors for a sleek, built-in look
- Refinished original wood floors to unify and brighten the space
- Used a slab quartz backsplash for seamless drama and easy maintenance
- Fabricated custom metal brackets to invisibly support the oversized island overhang without interrupting the clean, open aesthetic
Special Features
- A black-and-brass AGA range now commands attention as the room’s crown jewel
- Cherry cabinetry on the island brings in richness, grounding the room with warmth and depth
- Custom appliance garage adds hidden functionality while keeping counters clean
- Layered lighting—including a soft glass pendants over the island—adds dimension and atmosphere
- The warm afternoon sunlight spills across the veined quartz like golden hour magic, illuminating every luxurious detail
