Project Overview
This 1990 Craftsman home in Littleton, Colorado, owned by the clients since it was built, was ready for a main-floor remodel to better support their lifestyle and long-term needs. The existing layout felt dark and inefficient, with dated red oak flooring and a cramped kitchen that limited both functionality and flow. The homeowners were looking for guidance on how to brighten the space, improve circulation, and create a more comfortable environment for everyday living.

Kitchen Transformation
The remodel began with a complete reimagining of the kitchen. To improve workflow and usability, the range was relocated to an exterior wall and replaced with a drop-in induction cooktop, paired with a separate wall oven and microwave. This new configuration created 30 inches of uninterrupted prep space on both sides of the cooktop, significantly enhancing functionality.
Additional kitchen upgrades included:
- A custom bar area with glass-front cabinetry and in-cabinet lighting to brighten the space
- Bottom cabinets outfitted with rollout trays for easier access and aging-in-place considerations
- A discreetly concealed power outlet integrated into a drawer to keep electronics out of sight
A new central island anchors the kitchen, featuring a large Blanco sink and generous seating to support both daily use and casual gatherings.
To address storage limitations, we created a custom pantry by repurposing space from the front foyer and adjacent office. The pantry includes:
- 24-inch-deep shelving for bulk items and appliances
- 12-inch-deep shelving for dry goods and everyday essentials
Main Floor Updates
Beyond the kitchen, the remodel extended throughout the main floor. In the living room, the fireplace was refreshed with dry-stacked stone, complemented by freshly painted built-in cabinetry and new carpet for added warmth and comfort. The powder bathroom was updated with a new vanity and fixtures, improving both storage and style.
Outdated flooring throughout the main level was replaced with bright, custom-colored 5-inch white oak planks, instantly lifting the space and unifying the design.
Entryway & Final Touches
To further improve flow and natural light, the basement door and adjacent wall were removed, opening and brightening the entryway. A new custom handrail system, designed to align with the homeowners’ vision, completed the transformation.
The Finished Space
The result is a welcoming, functional main floor that feels open, bright, and thoughtfully designed. By improving layout, storage, and material selections, this Craftsman home was transformed from dark and dated into a modernized space that supports the homeowners’ needs today while preparing them comfortably for the future.
