Vintage Revival: 1976 Kitchen Remodel

This project embarked on the transformation of a dated 1976 split-level home into a dynamic space primed for hosting memorable dinner parties. Our objectives were clear: infuse the home with more natural light, enhance traffic flow for seamless entertaining, and seamlessly marry the kitchen and dining areas. Dark espresso cabinets and black quartz countertops were chosen to complement the home's timeless design aesthetic, while new hardwood flooring seamlessly integrated with existing surfaces. Introducing a sola-tube skylight over the island amplified the space's natural illumination, counteracting the previous drop ceiling's somber ambiance.

Navigating design challenges with finesse, we addressed the obstruction posed by the living room stair location, strategically relocating the staircase to optimize kitchen layout and appliance clearances. Additionally, we seamlessly incorporated the client's desire to view the backyard while at the sink, and enjoy the morning sun by relocating the sink to an island, while anticipating future upgrades like French patio doors. Notably, we adeptly addressed the relocation of the main HVAC return into the new peninsula, ensuring optimal airflow and maintaining a clean cabinet aesthetic.

Special features were meticulously integrated to enhance functionality and aesthetic appeal. A bespoke coffee/drink bar with an upper wine rack provided storage solutions while keeping countertops clutter-free. Ample space was allocated around the drop-in induction range, facilitating effortless meal prep. Thoughtfully designed spice and tray divider pull-outs ensured easy access to essentials, further contributing to a tidy and organized space.

Through meticulous planning and execution, this remodel seamlessly marries practicality with a traditional style, resulting in a spacious and inviting kitchen ideal for entertaining. By addressing our client's objectives and overcoming design challenges with innovative solutions, we've breathed new life into this split-level home, creating a harmonious space perfectly suited for gatherings and hosting.
