Meet Jonathon Shaw, one of the skilled Lead Carpenters at VL Builders. With over five years of experience in the construction industry, Jonathon brings a broad skill set and a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and sustainability to every project he takes on.

He began his career in Charleston, South Carolina, working with a general contractor specializing in custom residential remodeling. There, he honed his abilities across all phases of construction, from framing through finish, developing into a true jack-of-all-trades. After relocating to Colorado in 2023, Jonathon expanded his expertise in high-end custom homes as both a finish and lead carpenter.

Jonathon is passionate about reducing waste in the construction industry. He believes in creating sustainable, efficient homes using renewable materials that last. What he values most about working at VL Builders is the thoughtful planning and organization that go into every project. Detailed schedules, prepared materials, and clear communication with subcontractors help the team deliver exceptional results and keep projects on track.

Originally from San Francisco, Jonathon studied at LSU, where he adopted his dog, Willie Nelson. Before joining the trades, he spent years cooking at several James Beard Award-winning restaurants in Charleston, where he also met his wife. In 2023, they moved to Colorado and have loved every minute of their new adventure.

Jonathon’s favorite quote, “Don’t gain the world and lose your soul; wisdom is better than silver or gold,” by Bob Marley, reflects his grounded approach to life and work. Guided by honesty, adaptability, hard work, and humor, he takes pride in being someone who shows up, solves problems, and keeps the jobsite both productive and enjoyable. When he’s not working, Jonathon enjoys exploring Colorado with his wife and Willie.
